The age of the high-density screen has begun. You can bet these will start to replace the tired (and functionally limiting) LED readouts of the past. The upshot: hardware with usability rivaling computers. Oh, and it’ll look damned purty.
Teenage Engineering has this gorgeous vid of the Operator-1 “OP-1″ controller/synth prototype in action:
Jolie interface pour faire un setup ambient et même s’amuser avec un tenori-on. l’interface permet d’ajouter le gear classic techno, 909,303 mais, ce que je préfère est les pédals de guitar. des heures de plaisir.
We still produce, and provide a repair and servicing for, the Synthi A and VCS3
synthes, as well as other EMS products.
We are expecting to re-start production of Synthis (Synthi A and VCS3) in early
summer of this year, but we have none instock at this time.
We only have enough Synthi A cases for 40 units, and when these are all used-up
we intend to redesign this product. Inevitably it will change into something a
bit different, but we have every intention of continuing with a similar portable
instrument.
In contrast the wooden cabinets for the VCS3 can still be made and we currently
have 30 ready for use in production. So we have no reason to think that this
original form of the EMS synthesizer will not remain available for several more
years.
Please note that at present we are unable to offer any keyboards for sale (KS or
DK2). We do expect to make the mechanical keyboard DK2 available again shortly
after we have restarted production of the A and VCS3 and we also hope to be able
to offer a re-designed version of the KS touch-keyboard sequencer in due course.
But it is still too early to be more positive about this.
Many would-be customers have been waiting for several years for production to
restart, and we have been operating a waiting list system. The waiting list for
the Synthi A is already over-subscribed by double the number of available cases.
But people are still joining in the hope that enough of the long-term waiters
will have dropped out when we re-establish contact with them shortly. Deposits
for Synthi As are now only accepted on the understanding that there is an
increasingly slim chance that one of the last Synthi As will be available to
purchase.
At the moment we are quoting a notional lead-time of 18 months for Synthi As and
VCS3s, but once we start delivering completed units we should be able to be a
bit more specific. Prices are 3000.00 GBP for the Synthi A and 3200.00 for the
VCS3 (excluding VAT - if you live in the EEC).
If you want to join the waiting list we just need a deposit in the form of a
personal cheque (NOT a bank draft), made out to EMS and mailed to the above
address, for the equivalent of 150.00 GB pounds (USD or euros). We will NOT
attempt to bank or cash these cheques and at any time you can request its
return, for example if you managed to find a used Synthi on ebay. If you want to
keep track of progress at our end you are always welcome to email for an update.
The Synthis we are making are to the original design using the original
components.
Here is the ’standard’ information about the range of modifications currently
available:

Oscillator Sync - variable via potentiometer(per osc) 20.00
Voltage Controlled Shape (per osc) 20.00
Hi/Lo frequency range - switchable (per osc) 25.00
Portamento/glide 45.00
Attack time extension - increased to 5 seconds 15.00
Voltage Controlled Filter Response (’Q') 40.00
10-turn pots on input channels - for easier tuning (each) 15.00
Centre-zero trapezoid - gives inverted bipolar output 30.00
Patchable Voltage Inverter 35.00
Extra Input Channel 30.00
Switchable 18/24 db per octave filter 15.00
Filter ‘unslew’ switchable on filter’s CV input 15.00

Prices are in GB pounds (GBP) and exclude VAT.
The most popular modifications are Oscillator sync, VC Shape, Hi/Lo switchable
oscillator range, patchable inverter, switchable filter slope and switchable
filter un-slew. All modifications are fitted at our workshop in Cornwall.

Glitch Sequencer is a free* cellular automaton based MIDI sequencer for the PC and Mac. It offers an interesting style of composition based on evolving patterns and is great for fast, fluid experimentation. Glitch Sequencer was written by Bret Truchan in Processing using themidibus MIDI library.

The idea is to take the concept of weekend loft punk matinée shows into the context of drone-ambient experimental music in a café, on a bright sunny/rainy sunday afternoon. It will also give the opportunity to some of these artists to play a proper and maybe quieter afternoon drone-oriented set (as they wish), instead of their regular outputs. For the first edition, we will showcase 11 artists/acts including 9 from Montreal:
This event will also feature the record launch for Hamilton’s premier ambient-psychedelic one-man band Electroluminescent, with the support of Ottawa’s ambient-dronist Shane Whitbread (also known as Fiveways).
The night will end with a practice run of the official premiere of Ghidrah: an impromptu improvised collaboration between Aun, Maggot Breeder & thisquietarmy, aka the 3-headed monster. These three artists have collaborated together under their individual names at LFH in November, which is from where the idea was stemmed from.
Here’s the tentative schedule for the event:
> 15h00 - Hoefizer
> 15h45 - thisquietarmy
> 16h30 - de.i.te
> 17h15 - Cloudscapes
> 18h00 - Maggot Breeder
> 18h45 - The Montreal Nintendo Orkestar
> 19h30 - Anti-School Year
> 20h15 - Aun
